Dr. Jason E. Glass serves as Superintendent of Jeffco Public Schools — Jefferson County, Colorado's largest school district and one of the largest in the state, educating roughly 85,000 students across the western Denver metro area. He began this role on July 1, 2017, with a stated first-year goal of helping to unify a community that had come through several years of division and rebuild trust in its schools.

Jason likes to describe himself not as a chief executive but as a "chief learner." That phrase — which shows up in his email signature — captures how he approaches the work: by visiting classrooms, listening to families, and asking the community what it wants for its children before deciding what the district should do about it.

A path through public education

Jason's career began in the classroom, teaching high school social studies. Before coming to Jeffco he was Superintendent of Eagle County Schools in Colorado, where he had earlier helped design the district's performance-pay program. He also served as Iowa's Director of Education from 2010 to 2013 and held several roles at the Colorado Department of Education. That mix of experience — teacher, state policymaker, and district leader — shapes the way he writes here about learning, funding, and the purpose of public schools.

A vision built on listening

Early in his tenure, Jason and the community developed Jeffco Generations: A Learning-Centered Vision for our Community's Schools, a vision that puts student learning at the center and names the durable skills young people need to thrive — critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, entrepreneurialism, communication, curiosity, and the ability to adapt to changing and difficult conditions. Much of what appears on this blog connects back to that idea: that a good education is about far more than a test score.

Why this blog exists

Advance Jeffco is Jason's personal space to think out loud, share the reasoning behind decisions, and — most importantly — hear back from the people the schools serve. It is meant to be a conversation, not a broadcast. Comments, disagreement, and honest questions are all welcome, within the spirit of the groundrules.
