Groundrules

A few shared expectations so this stays a place worth showing up to.

This blog only works if it feels safe to speak honestly. Strong opinions are welcome — this is public education, and people care deeply about it. What isn't welcome is anything that makes another person feel unwelcome. To keep the conversation productive, here is what we ask of everyone who takes part.

How we talk here

• Stay on the ideas, not the people. Disagree as sharply as you like with an argument. Don't attack the person making it.
• Assume good faith. Almost everyone in this community wants what's best for kids, even when we disagree about how to get there. Start there.
• Bring your name and your reasoning. Comments carry more weight when they explain the "why," not just the verdict.
• Keep students out of the crossfire. Never name, single out, or share private details about individual children, families, or staff members.
• Facts matter. If you're citing numbers or events, be prepared to point to where they come from. Correcting the record is always fair game.
• Make room for other voices. A conversation is not a monologue. Say your piece, then listen.

What gets moderated

Comments that include personal attacks, harassment, slurs, threats, spam, or private information about students or staff will be removed. Repeatedly ignoring these groundrules may mean losing the ability to comment. Moderation isn't about silencing disagreement — it's about protecting the disagreement that's worth having.

A note on disagreement

Some of the most valuable comments on this blog have come from people who saw things differently. Pushback, done in good faith, makes the thinking here better. If you think something posted is wrong, say so — clearly, specifically, and with respect. That's exactly the kind of conversation this space is for.
